Three Foundation Modifications

Revelstoke, BC

Project Info

The project was a bridge fortification as an initial stage of 4-lane Highway 1 expansion from Kamloops – Alberta. The project scope included upgrading the existing pier foundations via a micro pile and concrete solution around a busy CP rail line. Floods, COVID-19 and wildfires resulted in difficulties in material procurement and shipment. Further, layout of the site posed unique challenges. Heavy slope stabilization was required prior to mobilization of drilling rig to the western pier. Luxton designed and installed a scaffolding bridge which spanned entirety of creek in order to comply with DFO regulations and avoid CP Rail crossings. Close drilling proximity to active waterway corresponded to very challenging conditions on site. Constant pumping was required. Channeling of water and implementation of barriers prevented turbid water from entering the Eagle River.
